Hi, my name is Christina and in 2018 I bought a 1984 Scamp travel trailer!  I had been researching this inkling of an idea for quite a while: to purchase a vintage [recycle!] lightweight fiberglass camper.  While residing in Cincinnati I came across a Scamp trailer for sale on Craig’s List……..in Michigan! The decision was made - this was THE ONE!  My partner Steve and I drove to Negaunee, MI to purchase the Scamp and then proceeded to tow our “new to us” camper home. We had a delightfully LONG drive…….1,300 miles in 2 days.

We spent the past four years renovating the Scamp, taking it from its extensively dated 80’s vibe to its current modernized tiny oasis for two. I have always been someone CONSUMED with ideas, searching for that next project with the intent of pouring myself into something new.  It has been quite a laughter and tear filled journey; having had only some previous renovating experience, learning along the way,  and asking for help when needed. The first several blogs will be all about the Scamp!

Purchasing the Scamp was fueled via my interest in adventure and the outdoors instilled in me by my parents.  They encouraged activities in nature such as camping, hiking, skiing, and sailing, along with exploration of cultures through food, music, reading, and travel.  The year 2020 [Covid] put the brakes on what was once just assumed we could always do: travel, visit museums, hike National Parks, camp, share a meal with family and friends, or simply give a hug. With those challenges it became even more clear to us that taking the time to be with those you love is really the most important part of celebrating life.

We have decided the time is right for putting the Scamp to the ultimate test, fulfilling the dream of traveling around the United States.  Taking a break from our traditional jobs will provide us the opportunity to spend time with people we miss dearly, explore places we have never visited, and Coddiwomple: To travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination. This Blog is a platform for me to keep in touch and share our adventures from start to finish with my children, family, friends, and anyone remotely interested! Thank you for joining me as I document our travels, experiences, and lessons learned through some simple writing and my love of photographs.
